What is Active Rehabilitation?

Active rehabilitation involves tailored-made exercises by a licensed kinesiologist to help you ease your pain, increase your strength and mobility through a range of movement. The main goal is to get you back to a pain-free life as soon as possible. Your kinesiologist uses in-depth knowledge of human anatomy to prescribe exercises with specific purposes, targeting movements and muscle groups to reestablish strength, stability, and neuromuscular coordination.

Every active rehab program begins with a comprehensive assessment where our kinesiologist evaluates your posture, mobility, muscular strength, functional movement, and areas of compensation. This initial evaluation establishes a clear baseline and helps identify specific conditions such as muscle imbalances, posture issues, and functional movement problems.

How Active Rehabilitation Works

Your one-on-one sessions are active, engaging, and focused on rebuilding confidence in daily tasks. With active rehab, you are actively moving using custom exercises carefully guided and monitored by a licensed kinesiologist to ensure precise movement. Each session typically runs for 45-60 minutes, providing ample time for proper instruction, monitoring, and progression.

Your customized program may include:

  • Mobility and range-of-motion exercises to restore movement

  • Strengthening protocols for stabilizing muscles and joints

  • Posture correction and ergonomic strategies

  • Balance and coordination training

  • Functional movement retraining for activities like lifting, reaching, and walking

Over time, exercises become more challenging as your strength and mobility improve. Strength training protocols will be progressive and closely managed to ensure you safely advance through each stage of recovery.

Benefits of Active Rehabilitation

Active rehabilitation helps you regain strength, correct movement patterns, prevent chronic pain, and return to the life you love. Participants in active rehab can expect to see improvements in their physical abilities, including increased strength, stamina and flexibility.

By the end of your program, you can expect:

  • Improved stability, mobility, strength, and endurance

  • Restored range of motion and functional abilities

  • Reduced pain and improved symptom management

  • Enhanced balance and coordination

  • Increased body awareness and confidence

  • An exercise program to continue your recovery independently

Most importantly, active rehab builds long-term resilience by reducing the risk of re-injury and helping you successfully return to your pre-injury lifestyle.

Working Together with Other Therapies

Active rehabilitation complements physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and massage therapy to create a complete recovery system. Most injuries take a team of experienced practitioners to make the recovery progress smoothly and efficiently.

While passive therapies help reduce pain, improve joint mobility, release muscle tension, and support acute recovery, active rehabilitation strengthens weakened muscles, corrects faulty movement patterns, improves stability and coordination, and builds long-term resilience. When combined, these approaches accelerate healing and reduce the risk of chronic pain, helping you not only recover but thrive.
